Devoid: A god's lie

GD note: Sometimes you have to let typos and shit-poor proofreading slide to make the writer responsible for the mess take the heat and learn from it for future reviews. This is one of those times.

I recently got an email from Demonstealer records. They asked me to review two of their band’s upcoming releases. Devoid is the better of the two. This is kickass Indian thrash, with a take no prisoners attitude. I might go as far as to say that Devoid is theoretically the ultimate thrash band. They have the humour, melody, groove, catchiness, and songwritng and instrumental skills to be the best thrash band out there. I smell potential.

The first thing that will catch your eear on this record is the prodution. Its pretty damn good. Clear, but not polished to the point where its lifeless. The music on the album is thrash metal with the occasional touch of melody or groove. Like many bands from exotic scenes, Slayer and their contemporaries are the main influence. Overall the songs are well arranged, played and believe me this shit is groovy as fuck. The vocals are aggressive but monotone. The dude on vocals sticks to his thrash bark, and doesn’t let go. A shame, but I’ve never heard the dude clean so whatever.

It´s interesting to see more and more metal acts come out of India. Who would have thought that just 10 years ago. I guess the fast growing middle class in that country are one of the main reasons for that development. Whatever reason a band like Devoid certainly puts India on the brutal thrash metal map and A God´s Lie is a quality thrash metal album fully deserving a 7.5 stars. There’s definitly a lot of potential here for an amazing band.
